One actor takes on more than 30 characters in a Downton Abbey spoof that portrays the uncensored story of some of the beloved show’s most popular characters.

Luke Kempner says you don't have to be a huge Downton Abbey fan to enjoy the one-man show "Upside Downton," which is currently making its Canadian debut in Toronto.

"I tried to write it in a way that, if you're not a Downton Abbey fan, there's still a lot for you," Kempner, who wrote and stars in the production, told CTV's Canada AM on Tuesday.

The British impressionist plays 36 characters in the on-stage performance, including a dozen from the critically acclaimed drama.

"I was watching Downton Abbey and I realized I could do about 12 characters," Kempner said.

He posted a video of the impressions to YouTube, which garnered about 50,000 views overnight.

"It just changed my life, that video," he said. "To think that was three years ago, where my career was and where it is now, it just blows my mind."

Kempner, who worked in musical theatre before writing the one-man show, said he's always had a knack for impressions.

"I think it was listening to a lot of cartoons as a kid, and always copying the sounds," he said.

“Upside Downton” is playing at the Panasonic Theatre in Toronto until Oct. 18.
