With Black Friday less than a week away, Canadian retailers are getting ready to offer their best deals of the season.

So how can Canadian shoppers get the best bang for their buck? Jennifer Shannon, vice-president of sales and marketing at Shop.ca, joined CTV’s Canada AM Monday to share some shopping tips ahead of the holiday season.

First off, Shannon says there is no reason to take your dollars outside of Canada on Black Friday and Cyber Monday (the Monday after Black Friday). In fact, the deals – up to 75 per cent off some items - are available in Canada in the week leading up to Black Friday.

“There’s no reason why you shouldn’t shop and keep your money in Canada. Don’t worry about duty or shipping or anything,” said Shannon.

Here are some of Shannon’s tips for online bargain hunting in Canada this season:

  • Make a spreadsheet listing all of the people you need to buy for and their wish lists.
  •  Know your budget and keep it in mind when online shopping.
  • Allow some “wiggle room” in your budget, just in case you find the perfect gift.
  • Don’t wait; start shopping today: Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals start early this week.
  • Don’t be afraid to shop online; many websites offer free shipping and free returns.
  • Get your shopping done this week before the holiday shoppers start to pick over items.

“Online shopping is really the best of every kind of shopping world. If you’ve been to the mall in the past couple of weekends, you’ll understand wholeheartedly what it means to sit down in your living room, with a beautiful glass of wine, open up your laptop and shop,” said Shannon.
