Losing your passport can be a nightmare, but for two Amazing Race Canada contestants it spelled defeat.

“It is what it is,” Hamilton Elliott told CTV’s Canada AM Friday morning, a smile still on his face.

Elliott and his fiancée, Michaelia Drever, ended the race in Halifax after a whirlwind trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina. It wasn’t until the couple landed in Canada that Elliott realized he left his passport on the plane, resulting in their elimination.

They are the fourth duo booted from the competition, which airs on CTV.

And despite high emotions, Drever insists she wasn’t upset with Elliott .

“I was definitely frustrated, I mean, who wouldn’t be in that situation,” she told Canada AM Friday morning. “But you know what, he’s my partner and it could have just as easily been the other way around.”

After their elimination, host Jon Montgomery thanked Elliott, the first transgender participant on the show, for his bravery.

“It meant a lot,” said Elliott. “I watched Jon on the first two seasons. I just love him. I think he’s a great guy.”

That’s a major understatement, according to his partner, who says Elliott was a little star-struck by the host.

“He was just going on, he was like, 'Oh my God, that’s Jon Montgomery!'"

The couple is keeping busy planning their wedding next June, and they say there are no hard feelings over their loss.

“We’re still together and that’s all that matters,” Drever said.
