Fall is for Planting!

I have planned and planted four gardens of my own since I starting on the journey of ‘home ownership’ and every one of them was planted in the fall, with spectacular results.  Why?  As air temperatures cool the soil retains heat from the past summer.  This promotes late season root growth on newly planted and established plants.  It is mother natures way of preparing the plant for winter, by building up the natural sugars at the root zone. Plus, late season root growth supports substantially more new growth come spring than spring-planted ones.

I might add, garden retailers across the country are anxious to move their inventory this time of year, for the most part.  They do not want to over winter existing inventory and so, you will likely find some great deals out there!  The selection is always better in the spring, alas, we can't have it both ways!
