I know that it seem early to bring in the tropical plants.  In many cases they look fabulous and will never look better (until this time next year).  Which the point, really.  In order there to BE a next year you need to look your tropicals over carefully now for bugs: wipe them down with Green Earth Insecticidal soap sprayed onto a clean cloth.  If the leaves are small, just spray it on and always be sure to cover the underside of the leaves where insects tend to harbour.

Check also for the need to repot a tropical plant.  If the roots are growing into the surface of the soil and through the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot, it is time to up-size one pot size.  A 10 inch pot [measured as the diameter of the mouth of the pot] should be moved up to a 12 inch, for instance.

Always repot into quality soil like C.I.L. or Green Earth or Pro Mix.  Pull away the excess soil around the plant roots and cut back up to 1/3 of the existing roots.  Now you plant is ready for a new home!  Be sure to 'jam' (literally) the soil into the inside wall of the pot using a small ruler or paint stir stick.  This gets the air pockets out.

Water well and place you plant in a well lit room, in the brightest window in the room.

Don't be alarmed by leaf drop, just pull back on the frequentcy of watering and be patient.  Hopefully you plant will survive our Canadian winter in good enough shape to give you a great show again next season out of doors.
